A Tribute to Those We Have Lost
In remembrance of those who have lost a loved one to fentanyl, Michael Land, TXAF North Texas Director and a devoted father and advocate, is embarking on a heartfelt journey to honor their memories. After tragically losing his son, Preston, to fentanyl poisoning on January 5, 2021, Michael has dedicated his life to raising awareness and preventing other families from experiencing the same devastating loss.
On March 24, 2025, Michael will begin a seven-week journey across seven states, visiting 25 waterfalls to film a powerful tribute at each location. This initiative is part of his 25Preston7 awareness program, a mission inspired by his son’s age—25 years old—and the number 7, which symbolizes completion in the Bible.

The Meaning Behind 25Preston7
Michael first launched this movement by traveling to 25 national parks, where he rode his bike 7 miles in each park and hiked to the highest elevation to film a memorial for Preston. This journey served as both a personal tribute and a way to spread awareness about the devastating impact of fentanyl. 25preston7.com
Now, he is taking his mission even further. His upcoming journey will bring him to breathtaking waterfalls across California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. At each stop, he will read aloud the names of loved ones lost to fentanyl, displaying their photos with their forever age, framed against the beauty of nature’s waterfalls. Every moment will be captured on video as a lasting tribute to those taken too soon. To have your loved one included in Michael’s tribute, please submit their name, photo, and forever age to Michael at: mike@txaf.com. Your loved one’s memory will be honored as part of this heartfelt journey.
For the past four years, Michael has seen how victims of fentanyl poisoning are often reduced to statistics. But to him—and to so many others—they are not just numbers. They are cherished lives that mattered. Through this journey, he hopes to bring national attention to this crisis and ensure that each name is honored with love and dignity.
About Michael Land
Michael Land has dedicated his life to advocacy and awareness following the tragic loss of his son, Preston, to fentanyl poisoning. With 27 years of experience in the cancer industry, Michael has spent much of his professional life in healthcare, but his personal journey has led him to a new mission—fighting the fentanyl crisis and supporting those struggling with addiction, grief, and loss.
A Dallas, TX native, Michael moved to McKinney, TX in 1995 to raise his two sons. Tragedy first struck in 2005 when he lost his son Wesley due to medical complications. More recently, he endured the heartbreaking loss of Preston, a Boyd High School graduate, to fentanyl poisoning. His grief has fueled his nationwide mission to bring awareness to the fentanyl epidemic, ensuring that those lost are not just statistics but loved ones who mattered.
Michael has been actively involved in addiction recovery efforts, working with both secular and faith-based organizations. Having faced his own struggles with addiction, he is deeply committed to mentoring others through grief, suffering, and recovery. He serves as a mentor at his church’s biblical-based Steps program and previously sat on the advisory board at Serenity High School, a school dedicated to students in recovery.
Today, Michael is a Texas Against Fentanyl Director and a key member of the Dallas Opioid Task Force, where he collaborates with community leaders, law enforcement, and schools to educate and advocate for change. Through his work, he continues to stand up for grieving parents, support those battling addiction, and ensure that no family has to suffer in silence.
A Father's Mission of Faith and Healing
“My son Preston was taken from me on January 5, 2021. I want to bring awareness to others that one simple decision can take a person’s life. I want to share my own experiences—the missteps I took as a parent—and the steps I could have taken to possibly save my son. My hope is that by learning from my journey, other families might avoid the devastating loss that I have endured.”
Over the next 7 weeks, Michael will document this deeply personal mission through videos and storytelling, sharing how he continues to navigate grief and healing through his faith in God. His hope is to bring comfort to those facing trials and tribulations, reminding them that they are not alone.
💙 “I pray that you will find comfort with God in any trials and tribulations that come your way. God bless.”
